John Lennon’s Only Two Full-Length Post-Beatles Concerts Get Restored
John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s two 1972 One to One concerts at Madison Square Garden will arrive on Blu ray on April 9, 2027. Announced on October 9, 2026, Power to the People restores what are described as Lennon’s only two full length concerts after the Beatles.
What the Blu ray editions include
- The collection comes in two disc and four disc configurations, both available to preorder. The deluxe four disc edition contains three concert presentations and the One to One: John & Yoko documentary.
- Blu ray 1 has a 17 song hybrid film assembled from both concerts. Blu ray 2 presents the 15 song afternoon performance, while Blu ray 3 contains the 16 song evening performance. Blu ray 4 carries the documentary, directed by Kevin Macdonald and Sam Rice Edwards, about the couple’s first year in New York City and the events leading to the concerts.
- The repertoire includes New York City, Instant Karma! (We All Shine On), Mother, Imagine, Cold Turkey, Come Together, Hound Dog, and Ono’s Open Your Box and Don’t Worry Kyoko. Stevie Wonder, Sha Na Na, Melanie Safka Schekeryk and other guests join Lennon and Ono for Give Peace a Chance.
- The restoration took more than 20 years. The team cleaned, rejoined and transferred the original film negatives, then reordered and synchronized the footage for a multiscreen presentation. The original audio multitracks were also restored and remixed. Audio options include high definition stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos.
- The deluxe package comes in a 10 inch lenticular slipcase with a 128 page hardback book and two double sided postcards. Package information conflicts on whether one or two posters are included.
Why it matters to guitar players
This release gives guitar players access to a rare full length record of Lennon’s live work after the Beatles. Its three concert presentations let players compare the hybrid edit with the separate afternoon and evening performances. Lennon and Ono perform with the Plastic Ono Band, Elephant’s Memory and guests across solo material, the Beatles song Come Together and the rock and roll cover Hound Dog.
