Two nights with an all star guest list

The announced performers include the Black Crowes, Run-DMC, Heart, Andrew Watt, Billy Idol, Chad Smith, Duff McKagan, Eric Church, Jerry Cantrell, Marcus King, Mike Inez, Nuno Bettencourt, Pat Monahan, Sammy Hagar, Slash, Steve Stevens, Sully Erna and Tom Morello. Keyboardist Adam Wakeman, guitarist Audley Freed, bassist Don Was and drummer Kenny Aronoff are also scheduled to appear. Was is the music director for both concerts. The lineup will vary each night, with final appearances confirmed at or near showtime and subject to change. More artists, special guests and surprise appearances are expected. The general sale begins October 10 at 10 a.m. PDT. VIP upgrades include access to the Aerosmith VIP Lounge before the show and early venue entry, while some packages add a limited edition jacket and exclusive T-shirt.

Why the comeback matters to guitar players

These concerts bring Aerosmith's guitar centered catalog back to the stage alongside musicians associated with Guns N' Roses, Alice in Chains, Extreme, Rage Against the Machine, the Black Crowes and other rock acts. Slash, Duff McKagan, Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, Nuno Bettencourt, Tom Morello, Marcus King, Steve Stevens and Audley Freed give each lineup several distinct approaches to riffs, rhythm parts and solos. The announcement highlights Aerosmith songs such as “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way,” “Janie's Got a Gun,” “Crazy,” “Cryin'” and “I Don't Want to Miss a Thing.” The shows also carry added weight after the Peace Out farewell tour stopped following Tyler's injury. Aerosmith later cancelled the remaining dates and announced their retirement from touring, so these Hollywood Bowl concerts are their first announced return to a full concert stage.
