John 5 Becomes Most Decorated Telecaster Artist With 3 New Models

Fender unveiled three John 5 signature Telecasters on October 6, 2026: the Indonesian made Ghost and Phantom, plus a US built Custom Shop Phantom. The launch brings the Mötley Crüe guitarist’s Fender and Squier signature tally to nine models, the highest total for a Telecaster signature artist. His first Fender signature Telecaster arrived in 2004.

Ghost, Phantom and Custom Shop specifications
All three Telecasters have two DiMarzio D Activator humbuckers and killswitches. The Indonesian models pair nyatoh bodies with C profile maple necks and John 5 signature neck plates. The Arctic White Ghost has a matching headstock, mirror pickguard, maple fingerboard and six saddle hardtail bridge. Red binding, pickup bobbins, dot inlays, controls and logo provide contrast. Published specifications disagree on its fingerboard radius, listing either 9.5 inches or 12 inches. The black on black Phantom has black hardware, an ebony fingerboard with a 12 inch radius and a Floyd Rose FRTS2000 Special Series double locking vibrato. The Custom Shop Phantom uses a two piece select alder body with Ultra Contours, a Modern C profile maple neck and a flat laminated ebony fingerboard with a 10 to 14 inch compound radius. It retains the Phantom’s D Activator pickups and Floyd Rose vibrato. The Ghost and Indonesian Phantom were available at launch for $1,299 each. The Custom Shop Phantom was priced at $6,000.

Why these Telecasters matter to guitar players
The collection adapts the Telecaster for high output playing rather than traditional single coil use. Humbuckers and killswitches support abrupt sound changes, while flatter fingerboard specifications and body contouring address fast playing and comfort. The Phantom models add double locking vibrato hardware for bends and pitch effects while helping the guitar stay in tune. John 5 said the Floyd Rose was needed to perform Mick Mars’s original Mötley Crüe parts faithfully. He tested the Phantom prototype while touring, recording several records and playing in extreme hot and cold weather. For players who want these features without the $6,000 Custom Shop price, the two Indonesian models cost $1,299 each at launch.
