Boss Katana-25 compact digital guitar amplifier unveiled

Six voices, presets and practice tools

• The Katana-25 pairs a custom eight-inch speaker with an open-back cabinet. Its 25-watt reactive analog power section uses Boss Tube Logic technology, which is intended to reproduce the response and feel of a tube amplifier.
• Six amp characters cover clean sounds, pop, blues, country, classic rock and high-gain metal. One voice is designed for acoustic-electric instruments. Players can shape them with Gain, Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble and Master Volume controls on the front panel.
• More than 60 Boss effects are included, with up to five available at the same time. The amplifier also has tap tempo for delay and other time-based effects, plus a built-in guitar tuner.
• The Katana-25 ships with 20 factory presets and 10 empty slots for custom tones. Basic preamp and effects settings can be changed from the amplifier panel, while Boss Tone Studio provides more detailed editing and access to sounds shared through Boss Tone Exchange.
• Power Control switches between the full 25-watt output and a half-watt setting. The lower setting lets players use cranked amplifier sounds at a lower room volume.
• Bluetooth supports song streaming from a phone or tablet and allows the combo to work as a home audio speaker. Tone Studio's Session feature can browse and play YouTube content, with timeline points that trigger automatic preset or memory changes during playback.
• Connections include USB-C, a mini-jack headphones and recording output, and a quarter-inch input for an external footswitch. The amplifier also supports separately sold Boss controllers, including the EV-1-WL Wireless Expression Pedal.
• The Katana-25 is available now through authorized Boss retailers for $199.99.
